High-temperature behaviour and interfacial damage of CGI: 3D numerical modelling

Abstract Superior mechanical and thermal properties, high wear resistance a competitive price of compacted graphite iron (CGI) have made it an integral part industry worldwide. In its applications in automotive engines, high-temperature environments cause expansion that can result emergence interfacial damage CGI. Although graphite-matrix is considered the main mechanism lead to total fracture CGI, extensive research on CGI has not yet fully investigated this phenomenon at microscale, especially under pure loading. This paper focuses performance onset cycles. Three-dimensional numerical models are developed, with single inclusion embedded unit cell metallic matrix. Elastoplastic behaviour for both phases simulations. The effects morphology orientation inclusions response entire loading investigated. Also, influence periodic fully-fixed boundary conditions discussed. results give better understanding mechanisms exposed elevated temperatures.
